Make sure your sorting by capture date and not by Custom. AFAIK, the images are renamed in the order that they are sorted.

Yes, sorted by capture date.  The images show in browse in the correct order, but the renaming sequence comes out all random.  First photo of the day was named 118, second named 140, then 119,

I've never had a problem with the renaming sequence before.  The only thing I could think of was that I had run some of them through Topaz DeNoise first, but they are all still sorting by Capture Date appropriately.

There are no other options for sort order that I know of. You might want to try deleting the settings file as doing that seems to fix many weird problems. If that doesn't help you'll have to contact On1 tech support and ask them.

As a test, I would also try placing all the Topaz processed images into their own sub-folder and trying again. Topaz's programs are known to mess with the exif data.
