System Error on install- Vulcan-1.dll not found
Windows 10 64 bit
Cannot install ON1 2023 after two installs.
After first install: Ultrasearch shows no copies of vulkan-1.dll on my computer.
OK, found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1C5thNKW70 and installed the vulkan file.
Second install attempt, it installs OK but fails to run, so What do I do now?

Download a fresh copy of 2023 and install it again. I've never seen this error before.

I'm having the same issue in Win10 64 bit. I have downloaded the software twice. Same error message as Jack Hobbs. I also rebooted between downloads / installs and the issue persists. I also ran the install exe as admin on my computer. After installing vulkan-1 manually, I now get a different error:

You're going to have to ask tech support about it. Sorry.

Hi,
I got same vulcan-1.dll error, Also Win10 64-bit. Did however so far not try more than taking an existing one, had this dll already multiple times on harddisk, seems even MS applications like Edge uses it.
I copied it into Photo Raw director, and then no error message, but simply nothing happens after a executing the application.
The ON1 Photo RAW file currently downloadable from ON1 seems exactly same than I downloaded immediately after availability.
Seems as always Win is not their preffered OS. Will better wait until a new release rather than fixing missing files issues by myself. If it starts already with the start like this, who knows what else is inside.

Download of ON1 Photoraw 2023 went well.
When I tried to install it first normally, then a second time as Admininstrator, I get the same error as everybody ele.
This error only appears at the end if the installation process, after I press "Done" to finish installation.

Have any of you done a web search on Vulkan-1.dll? I haven't been able to find out what it does for certain or who it actually comes from but I did find some interesting leads.
This .dll may not be coming from Photo RAW. I've seen it mentioned in an Android emulator article and in one that said you need to update video card drivers. I've also seen virus infections cited as a cause of the problem.
If this is part of your video card drivers Photo RAW will expect it to be there when it initializes the graphics card. If that initialization fails then Photo RAW cannot start (no video output!) and it reports the problem making it look like it is a Photo RAW problem.
Google 'vulkan-1.dll' and you'll find all kinds of articles on how to fix the problem by downloading and installing it. Be sure to restart your computer after the install.

Checking the file properties for that dll , it looks like that dll is part of the "Vulkan runtime". The copyright info doesn't list a company, but googling that shows that it could be part of the Nvidia driver support. There are links to downloads for various versions of the drivers online, but I would work with On1 support to ensure that you're getting the proper versions. The wrong versions could also be problematic.

Same problem and the suggestions from ON1 are not helpful. I didn't upgrade to be subjected to this frustrating hassle and no mention of this when pre-purchased. I will request a refund. Hopefully in the future they sort this.

And again! Downloads OK but will not run because of missing vulkan-1.dll. Second try with fresh download - same result. Yet version 2022.5 still launches without problem.
I can still use 2022.5 and Photoshop and Lightroom until Mister ON1 you come up with a solution. Soon please.

Hm, accordingly to this ON1 page I'm not so sure they ever will fix this. They basically classify it as too old or incompatible hardware or not latest driver:
Yes, my laptop is not newest but for me still good enough as additional device. ON1 2022.5 ran smooth there appart from the "general" known issues. I use latest driver available.

This isn’t a problem that ON1 can fix. The problem lies with the video card drivers, not the ON1 software. I mentioned this in my post above.

Well, I think this case needs to be distinguished to e.g. the NVIDIA driver case. There it seems (at least from what we know so far) a kind of "bug" in the driver. And even here you could wonder why these things are noticed along with go-live only with such a common "top chosen" current NVIDIA hardware - and on very fundamental function you could instantly see if only one guy would have tested that - but OK - fine let's say only NVIDIAS fault there. Anyway, here the topic seems to be not "bug" but compatibility. And the fact that beside ON1 2022.5 the major other competitor's software seem to run at these systems - at least at mine (e.g. Topaz, Adobe, Affinity, Corel - basically all I use myself) are compatible, suggests that this seems not be a general unsolveable compatibility issue.

Comparing different editing programs like this is futile. Different programs use the hardware in different ways. Photo RAW is much more GPU intensive than most other programs I’ve used. This is especially true for comparisons with Adobe’s software which stresses the CPU more than the GPU.
Other than that I agree, there are 2 GPU related problems. One is that NVIDIA needs to update their drivers. The other is that some drivers are relying on this missing .dll. Both of them are out of ON1’s hands.

Sorry still disagree, There is nothing "missing" in the driver - at least not that DLL. Where is that information from? Seems only ON1 and RAW 2023 "misses" this DLL to run. Too simple to say "I await sth to be there which no one else awaits and say this is a driver issue". This DLL is from an independent different software vendor than the drivers are. The ON1 issue affects obviously multiple diferent gfx cards of different producers. Again, not comparing the applications by performanve. Performance CPU-vs-GPU is a different issue (and BTW ON1 is far not the fastest if you have multiple effects). We are talking here about compatibility. Update - I'm not even sure that the missing DLL is the issue. It seems to be just a strange error message, because you can add that DLL, ON1 won't complain about this DLL anymore, and still not start.

I'm having the same problem. Missing vulkan-1.dll.

I must admit I am very disappointed that ON1 as a company has not deemed it worth their while, to at least acknowldge the fact some potential users are having difficulties!
This is certainly not giving a favourable impression of their customer support.
I have the same problem all others have mentioned. I am wondering if ON1 supports Intel HD5500 graphics?
This is the graphics on my Dell 7450 laptop. This graphics card is very common, probably the most popular card for laptops.
This complies with GL 4.4 and with the system requirements as listed by ON1.

Windows Install Error: vulkan-1.dll was not found : Entry Point not found - ON1 PHOTO RAW 2023

As suggested above, I updated my NVidia Quadro K4000 driver direct from NVidia. ON1 Photo Raw 2023 opened perfectly with no error message regarding the missing Vulkan-1.dll.
The computer is an old (2012) HP Xeon with 32GB of RAM which cost just over £200 and has proved to be very reliable during six years of use. Probably it will not be very fast with the 2023 but it's not being used professionally any more since I retired some years ago.
Brian Lawson and Jochen Wienke thank you very much for your help.

I am having the same problem too - Get error message vulkan-1.dll not found so can't open Raw 2023. I uninstalled program, rebooted, and reinstalled again. Still doesn't work. ON1 needs to provide a solution otherwise program is worthless.

Why would you reinstall Photo Raw when this is a GPU driver problem? On1 is working on it, but you can check this article in the meantime.

Hello;
As you can tell from my previous comments, I was having a similar issue with Vulcan-s.dll not found.
I was using a Intel i7 laptop with integrated Intel HD5500 graphics. After contacting Tech Support, I was advised that my laptop could not run Photo Raw 2023. The issue was non-compatibility of the graphics with the new ON1 software.
I was offered a refund.
In the end I bought a new (used) laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad i7-7820 with 32GB RAM) with a dedicated graphics card (Nvidia Quadro M1200 with 4 GB RAM). ON1 Photo Raw 2023 was installed and opened up without issues.
I have not yet had time to process any photos, but the test I ran was successful.
