On1 Raw 2023 crushes when opening photo to edit
-
I have the same problem. The program crashes the moment I start editing using an AI preset.

Mine crashes as soon as I load some of my JPG files. A few of them load properly And other JPEGs cause the program to crash instantly. It does not happen with PNG’s

Same here and I can't figure out what in a photo is causing it. Probably jpg files, but like Robert Becker some work and some don't.
I uninstalled, reinstalled, then rebuilt the catalog.

I have the same problem. Crashes instantly when opening some jpg files...not all.

ON1 is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. I was having the same issue, logged a request with all the details and received the below message:
Hello,
We've isolated a crash that can occur in Lens Corrections and are working to address this ASAP.We will be working to release another update to address bugs discovered with our initial release.
Thanks for your patience while we work to address and fix the issue.
Let us know if you need further assistance. Thanks for choosing and using ON1 Software!

My 2023 Raw crashes as soon as I try to open a DNG file for editing. No idea why. I have sent a ticket to support but it may be a few days before I get an answer.

Me too. For me I think it crashes when opening photos that have had no previous edits (i.e. no +- icon in the corner on the preview), and that applies whether jpg or arw/dng

For myself, it seems to be crashing any time an adaptive preset is active. Even just having the panel open on the left, if it's open to Adaptive presets, that's enough to crash instantly.
EDIT: Ok, so the above was true yesterday, but today everything seems to be working. No crashes at all (yet). Go figure.

I have the same problem. I opened a support ticket. Received a reply instructing me to download new Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website, download & re-install On1 from the owner's download page. Then configure On1 in the Nvidia control panel to use my graphics card. 45 minutes later after completing all the steps, it still CRASHES!
Frustrating!

I have an AMD Radeon card. I do not think this is a hardware issue but a bug in the 2023 software. I was instructed to download latest driver for the card - I am running the latest driver. I meet ALL the hardware requirements. Lots of people are having this issue. I suspect we will find out soon what the real problem is. In the meantime, I hope yoiu kept your older ON1 version.

Hi Robert,
Yes, I kept my 2022 version on my PC. Glad I did.
I am a bit steamed that they are starting live edit webinars when for a lot of us the new program isn't working!

Same problem you guys are having. Program crashes to desktop any time i try to open EDIT module on a previously unedited photo. If it is a photo that I have already worked on (in 2022), it works just fine. Perhaps it is related to the on1 sidecar file? Really hope this is resolved soon. I can't use the brand new program that I have been really excited to try out. Oh, I should mention that I have already updated to the latest NVIDIA driver (522.25) and done a full reinstall with no luck.

Also joining the bandwagon with 2023 ON1 PR crashes. My crashes ONLY occur with Lumix RW2 RAW files. No issues with Canon CRx (including 55meg R5 CR3 files) or Sony AWx. But, with RW2 files, as soon as I go to "edit," the program crashes. I have a NVIDEO GTX 1050 ti graphics card with the latest (522.25) driver. I have done a clean uninstall and reinstall of the program and configured the NVIDEO control panel to assign 2022 and 2023 ON1 PR to the GPU. All image files including the RW2 work fine with 2022 ON1 PR. It's only the 2023 that's giving me grief. I've been corresponding with a 2023 user that is not having issues with RW2 files. He sent me links to download the same files and I crashed. Also when I monitor with the W10 Task Manager, as soon as I go to "edit" with ANY *.RW2 file, I see an instant spike of the GPU in the TM Performance tab and program crashes.
Update - Today, I loaded one of the previously unedited RW2 into PR 2022.5 and made some change (which created the *.on1 sidecar file). I then exited the program and started 2023 ON1 PR and attempted to edit the same RW2 file. Bingo..... no crash when I go into "edit!!" I did a few edits without incident and exited the program.
Another update - Then, I went to the folder where the now edited RW2 resides. I deleted the *.on1 sidecar file, expecting the ON1 executable to crash when I attempted to load the file. But.... it loaded the edited image just fine and simply recreated the *.on1 file. I'm assuming it's because the RW2 file was part of a saved catalog?

This is the reply I got from Support today:
Our dev team is tracking this issue with Nvidia and some crashers and we’re working on some fixes and hope to have an update release asap.
We don’t have any immediate fixes.
Thanks for your patience while we work through these issues.
We’ll let everyone know once we have some updates.
MY REPLY to support:
How about On1 compensate us for all our 'inconvenience'?! I paid for a program back in September or late August for a program that has not been fully tested with industry standard Graphic Cards. Then I spent 45 minutes or so with the last so called 'fix'. When the problem is finally resolved, I will probably spend another hour or so implementing that 'fix' which may or may not work. How about a 1 year On1 plus membership. I was so annoyed with your company's software that I did not attend the 'live edit' program which recordings will only be available to On1 plus members. I didn't see the point of attending since I could not immediately utilize the webinar information.Don't give us empty words like 'sorry for the inconvenience'. Put your money where your mouth is!0 -
Hello,
I have the same issue than you guys. I can only edit photos where edited previously with ON1 PR 2022.5
I hope the ON1 support team will fix the problem quickly.

Same issue. My problems are with LUMIX RW2 RAW files only. If I attempt to go from browse to edit on any RW2 file, ON1 2023 crashes. However, if I load the same file into ON1 PR 2022.5, I can edit and save. If I then load the same file into ON1 2023, I can go into edit without incident. Something to do with creating the sidecar *.on1 file?

See my post in other thread - my guess is that the RW2 issue is a bug with handling lens correction for those files, came in with new purple fringe handling. Existing 2022.5 sidecar files already contain lens correction information which is then used by 2023 rather than creating from scratch.

I received a suggestion that seems to work. Go to Control Panel and then device manager. Click on Diplay adapters. Right click on NVIDA and disable. When screen reappears, go back to the steps before and reactivate NVIDIA driver. It's working for me.

Richard Wise,
Could it really be that easy a fix?! I followed your instructions and so far On1 2023 has not crashed for me in the Edit module.
Will post if the status changes!
Thanks so much!!

Although I have a Radeon card, I thought I would try your suggestion, Richard. No joy. Still crashes - but strangely only with photos I have shot in the last two years (photos taken with Canon mirrorless M6 and M6II). Older photos open no problem (Canon 5D II and III, Canon 50D, Canon 20D).

Richard Wise.... No help to me. Crashing is as predictable as inflation in 2022.
Robert Mcdonald .... It's been suggested that the problem lies in the lens correction, which kind of makes sense except that I've made some of my troublesome RW2 RAW available to another user and he had no problems.
All .... Through all the frustration trying to work through this crashing problem, I've also noticed that the 2023 ON1 PR executable is noticeably more sluggish compared to 2202.5.
