Pretty sure it's possible to do but I can't tell you how because the AI masking is not working for me but If you watch the On1 video " On1 Photo Raw 2023 A to Z" on Youtube starting at about 14 min in the show super select masking and then some correction to it at about 16 min in.

I know how the super select works. However it often (especially with animals) fails to create the mask properly - missing large parts of the subject.

Then the only way to corrrect correct it is with a manual brush - requireing painstaking brushing. Most other apps have an edge aware brush that will automatically brush to the edge of objects. I'm asking if a similar brush is available in On1 for fixing the AI masks when they don't work properly.

There isn’t an edge aware brush as such but we do have the Perfect Brush which is color aware and will find edges if there are different colors on either side of the edges. You can set the color sensitivity and the edge “hardness” (kind of) in its settings options.

    Thanks - I'll try that.

The Perfect Brush and its settings are discussed on page 94 of the User Guide. It takes some practice to get a feel for the right settings.

Perfect Brush: The Perfect Brush incorporates an automatic edge-detection technology to help create precise selections and masks. When you turn the option on—by clicking on the Perfect Brush icon in the Options bar—the Masking Brush collects the colors under the center of the brush and applies the effect only to those colors. This protects the adjustment from being applied across edges, such as tree branches.

Further settings for the Perfect Brush can be found by clicking on the gear icon in the Tool Options bar:

    • Color Threshold: This option lets you control the balance between keep and drop colors, based on the area you are working on. For example, you may want the Perfect Brush to be very precise and only paint away very similar colors, while at other times you want it to paint away a broad range of colors in the same neighborhood.
    • Transition: This slider controls the feather of the Perfect Brush based on color. To create a soft edge, increase the transition. To create a harder edge, decrease the transition amount.

Thanks all - I've tried it, and it is more or less doing what I want.

I couldn't find it origianlly because I'm working on a 13 inch screen, and with the preset panel open the perfect brush button was hidden under the right hand side bar.

Have you changed your screen resolution? The program should handle a 13” screen OK. It does not like a change resolution.

Resolution is default. This is what I see with both sidebars active:

That's unfortunate. At least you know how to get to it now.

Tony, I don't know if you're aware of it, but you can close one or both of those side panels with the icon in the lower corners. I rarely have the left one open and only do for an occasional preset and then I close it again.

    There are hotkeys too. Command/Control-Left/RightArrowKey

Yes - of course - that is how I've been able to use the tool.
