Can you use Super AI to mask out sections of a layer?

I'm trying to use Super AI to mask out portions of a photo that is a top layer above a background. I easily see how to apply effects to that top layer using Super AI, but how can I use the AI tool tool to totally mask out sections of that top photo?

  Use Mask AI. It makes the same selections and is useful in Layers and filters that are already enabled.

  You can also click on the Mask Preview for the Layer where you'll find a drop-down menu for selecting what you want masked. This works everywhere you can put a mask.
