It would appear that at some point I have overwritten the unduplicated original RAW. I back up all my SD cards to a removable drive so I shall explore that. Thanks Rick.

Yes it was previously edited in in Photo Raw. It is listed as a .NEF file

Immediately after posting it occured to me that a solution may be to correct the individual images then create the HDR.I have solved my own problem!

Thank you. I have in fact backed them all up on to an external drive. Since my days of 40MB hard drives I have always had a thing about disc space usage!

Thank you - I think that I have been beaten speciality layers. I can open the layers in Affinity Photo (my non-preferred option), and I believe also in GIMP. Is it a licensing issue? - curiosity.
