Using Effects with Capture One
When you edit an image sent from Capture One to ON1 Effects, Capture One creates a variant of the current photo. To use Effects inside Capture One, follow these steps:
- Open the image you want to work on in Capture One.
- From the Image menu, select Image > Edit With > ON1 Effects 2023.
- Choose the file characteristics in the Basic tab that you wish to use in Effects— File Type, Bit Depth, ICC Profile, and Resolution. You can also set the options in the Adjustments and Metadata tabs as desired. When you’re done, click the Edit Variants button to launch Effects.
- When you’re finished editing your photo, click the Done button in Effects.
After you’ve returned to Capture One, your new variant will be visible in the current collection.
BATCH PROCESSING IMAGES IN EFFECTS WITH CAPTURE ONE
You can process multiple images for editing in Effects with Capture One. Select the images you wish to work with in Capture One and choose Image > Edit With > ON1 Effects 2023. The Export Variant window will open with an additional tab, ON1 Batch, which contains a pop-up with two options:
- Pause on First Photo: Use this option when you wish to apply the exact same editing operations to a group of photos. This option will open the first selected image inside Effects. There, perform any editing option you wish, including adding filters, applying presets, retouching operations, cropping, masks, local adjustments and more. When you have finished with your edits, click Done. Effects will then apply all of those edits to each image in the group, and return you to Capture One.
- Pause on All Photos: This option lets you sequentially edit the images in the batch. Effects will open each image in the destination tab, where you can edit it as desired. When you are finished editing with one photo, click Done, and Effects will save that photo and open the next one, with the previous photo’s Effects settings applied. (You can reset any or all of those settings as desired.) When you have finished editing the last photo in the group, clicking Done will save the image, close Effects and return you to Capture One.
Before sending multiple images to Effects from Capture One, you can also click on the Basic, Adjustments and Metadata tabs to change those options. Once you have all the options chosen, click the Edit Variants button and Effects will process that group based on your batch settings.
Using NoNoise AI with Capture One
Similar to Lightroom, Capture One can process either single images or a group of images inside NoNoise AI, and can export those images as DNGs. When you edit images sent from Capture One to ON1 NoNoise AI, Capture One creates a variant of each photo, for processing in NoNoise.
To edit a single image inside Capture One:
- In Capture One, open and select the photo you wish to open in NoNoise.
- From the Image menu, select Image > Edit With > ON1 NoNoise 2023
- Choose the file characteristics you wish to use in NoNoise—use DNG for the best results—and click the Edit Variants button to launch ON1 NoNoise AI.
- When you’re finished processing your photo, click the Done button in NoNoise AI. Your photo will be saved in the selected format and returned to Capture One.
BATCH PROCESSING IMAGES IN NONOISE AI WITH CAPTURE ONE
Processing multiple images inside Capture One is nearly identical; you select the images you want to work on, and select Image > Edit With > ON1 NoNoise 2023. The export window in Capture One will now have an additional tab at the top, ON1 Batch. There are two batch options:
- Pause on First Photo: Use this option when you wish to apply the exact same editing operations to a group of photos. This option will open the first selected image inside NoNoise. There, perform any processing options, including Details settings, retouching operations, and cropping. When you have finished with your edits, click Done. NoNoise will then apply all of the edits to each image in the group, and return you to Capture One.
- Pause on All Photos: This option lets you sequentially edit the images in the batch. NoNoise will open each image in the main window, where you can process it as desired. When you are finished editing with one photo, click Done, and NoNoise will save that photo and open the next one, with the previous photo’s NoNoise settings applied. (You can reset any or all of those settings as desired.) When you have finished editing the last photo in the group, clicking Done will save the image, close NoNoise and return you to Capture One.
When using either the single-image or the batch method, after you’ve returned to Capture One, your processed images will be visible in the current collection. As is the case with other editing apps, you should make sure that you are not applying any additional noise reduction inside Capture One.
Using ON1 HDR with Capture One
When you send a group of photos to be merged as an HDR from Capture One to ON1 HDR, Capture One creates what it calls a ‘variant’ of each of the photos in the group. Primarily, the variants have a new file type, but can also preserve cropping information for each of the brackets.
To merge HDR brackets inside Capture One, follow these steps:
(*Note, you need multiple files selected in Capture One to see and have access to HDR)
- In Capture One, open and select the photos you want to merge to HDR.
- From the Image menu, select Image > Edit With > ON1 Merge with HDR 2023.
3. Choose the file characteristics you wish to use in HDR—File Type, Bit Depth, ICC Profile, and Resolution— and click the Edit Variants button to launch ON1 HDR.
4. When you’re finished editing your photo, click the Done button in HDR. Your merged photo will be saved according to the file format settings found in the Files window of HDR’s Preferences window.
After you’ve returned to Capture One, your new variant will be visible in the current collection.
EDITING SINGLE IMAGES FROM CAPTURE ONE
To send a single image from Capture One to ON1 HDR, select the image, and then choose Edit With > Other, and select ON1 HDR 2023 from its location on your hard drive.
If you’d like to add ON1 HDR to the application list in the Edit With menu, go to Capture One’s Plugins Preferences tab, and click the check box next to ON1 HDR 2023 in the list.
Using Portrait AI with Capture One
Similar to Lightroom, Capture One can process either single images or a group of images inside Portrait AI, and can export those images in a number of different file formats. To edit a single image inside Capture One:
- In Capture One, open and select the photo you wish to open in Portrait.
- From the Image menu, select Image > Edit With > ON1 Portrait 2023.
- Choose the file characteristics you wish to use in Portrait—use DNG for the best results—and click the Edit Variants button to launch ON1 Portrait AI.

BATCH PROCESSING IMAGES IN PORTRAIT AI WITH CAPTURE ONE
To process multiple images inside Capture One, you select the images you want to work on, and select Image > Edit With > ON1 Portrait 2023. The export window in Capture One will now have an additional tab at the top, ON1 Batch. There are three options:
- Use AI Auto for all Found Faces: This option will launch Portrait AI, automatically find all the faces in each photo and retouch each one according to the default setting—Subtle or Strong—set in Portrait AI’s General Preferences. No other editing is done, and the batched photos are displayed inside Capture One when the process is complete.
- Pause on First Photo: Use this option when you wish to apply the exact same editing operations to a group of photos. This option will open the first selected image inside Portrait. There, perform any processing options, including Details settings, retouching operations, and cropping. When you have finished with your edits, click Done. Portrait will then apply all of the edits to each image in the group, and return you to Capture One.
- Pause on All Photos: This option lets you sequentially edit the images in the batch. Portrait will open each image in the main window, where you can process it as desired. When you are finished editing with one photo, click Done, and Portrait will save that photo and open the next one, with the previous photo’s Portrait settings applied. (You can reset any or all of those settings as desired.) When you have finished editing the last photo in the group, clicking Done will save the image, close Portrait and return you to Capture One.
When using either the single-image or the batch method, after you’ve returned to Capture One, your processed images will be visible in the current collection.
Using ON1 Resize with Capture One

There, perform any editing option you wish, including adding filters, applying presets, retouching operations, cropping, masks, local adjustments and more. When you have finished with your edits, click Done. Resize will then apply all of those edits to each image in the group, and return you to Capture One.
- Pause on All Photos: This option lets you sequentially edit the images in the batch. Resize will open each image in the destination tab, where you can edit it as desired. When you are finished editing with one photo, click Done, and Resize will save that photo and open the next one, with the previous photo’s Resize settings applied. (You can reset any or all of those settings as desired.) When you have finished editing the last photo in the group, clicking Done will save the image, close Resize and return you to Capture One.
